Greetings — As Chair of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Board of Directors, I’m elated to reflect on an exceptional October, or as we so fondly call it, Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
We thank TV One and Luster Products for shining a spotlight on the issue of African Americans and the startling realities of breast cancer. As viewers tuned in on October 11 for the premier of Breast Cancer Examined: An African American Perspective, they were moved by the powerful stories Circle of Promise
ambassadors Gabrielle Union, Synthia SAINT JAMES and my Circle of Promise co-chair René Syler share their stories as it relates to breast cancer while survivors Diahann Carroll, Richard Roundtree and Alaina Reed Hall give emotional accounts of their personal experiences.
It’s time that we all speak out and share our stories. I invite you to view my story and then take action as I did and get involved with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure ® Circle of Promise. Susan G. Komen for the Cure launched the Circle of Promise movement to engage African Americans in its mission to end breast cancer forever by fostering increased awareness, support, empowerment and action.
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is always a great time to engage with us but so is every other month of the year. Don’t stop just because October has passed. Stay active and help us increase breast self-awareness that can lead to early detection and treatment and collectively fight for access to quality care for all. I challenge you Join the Circle of Promise today!
