Komen Convenes "Think Tank" Focused on Triple Negative
Breast Cancer

In an effort to shed light on this form of breast cancer
that accounts for approximately 15 percent of breast cancer cases,
Susan G. Komen for the Cure® partnered with the Triple Negative
Breast Cancer Foundation to convene a "think tank" Wednesday
comprised of 30 researchers from leading cancer institutions around
the world with the purpose of accelerating research and progress
for women who are not benefiting from recent advances.
Discussion at this groundbreaking event, led by
Komen Chief Scientific Advisor Dr. Eric P. Winer, centered on three
topics:
- Defining and diagnosing triple negative breast cancer
- The need to focus on the epidemiology and risk factors of
the disease
- The importance of clinical trials in developing new targeted
therapies
Wednesday's meeting was the first step toward a
goal of creating the first comprehensive publication and white paper
summarizing the state of the science around triple negative breast
cancer. The publication will include a roadmap and recommendations
for achieving the next level of research and, ultimately, treatment
for triple negative tumors.er.
